SANDPOINT – What a week we have ahead! The fun starts tonight with the Sandpoint Literary Collective open mic at Pend d’Oreille Winery, as well as a cool presentation by folklorist-singer Bill Rossiter at the library in Priest River.

The fabulous Growing Dreams Productions opens the musical ‘Annie’ Friday night and runs Saturday (and next weekend) at SHS auditorium.

Saturday night, the Bridges Home Trio plays a concert of all-original material from our various albums at the Pend Oreille Playhouse in Newport and we’d love to see you there.

Monday brings us the POAC-sponsored auditions for Missoula Children’s Theater’s upcoming production of ‘Blackbeard’ for local kids grades K-12 in the Farmin Stidwell Elementary gym.

Thursday, April 11

Pop-Up Open Mic

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301, Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6-8 p.m.

Whet your palette with an immersive pairing of your favorite Pend d’Oreille wine and a mélange of fiction, poetry, storytelling, and creative nonfiction readings at Sandpoint Literary Collective’s Pop-up Open Mic Night!

Pour out your own pieces or simply revel in those crafted by your friends and neighbors. Each writer will have five minutes to muse the masses. Arrive early for a glass of wine and a cheese plate.

Kevin Dorin

Bill Rossiter

Venue: West Bonner County Library, 118 Main St., in Priest River.

Time: 6 p.m.

The Friends of the West Bonner Library District are pleased to bring folklorist and singer/musician Bill Rossiter for a presentation titled ‘All That’s Fit To Sing: Scandals, Sensations And Slanders in Song.’

With wit and wisdom, Rossiter presents a history lesson that will leave you better informed and feeling great.

Following the presentation, local musicians in attendance are invited to join in a jam session.

Friday, April 12

‘Annie’ the musical

Venue: Sandpoint High School Auditorium, 410 S. Division Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. (Also on April 13, 18 and 20)

Growing Dreams Productions presents the American musical Annie, featuring more than 60 local actors, singers and dancers from ages 8 to 1. In addition to performers, local youth also created and built the sets, props, costumes, make-up and more backstage; directed by Jeannie Hunter, with musical director Jon Brownell, choreographer Becky Lucas, and costumer Angie Aller.

‘Mary Magdalene’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30 p.m.

Insightful and intimately photographed with a beautiful pace, this film follows the life of Mary Magdalene (Rooney Mara) as she leaves her family and her duty to follow a new radical way of thinking that is espoused by an introspective, yet outspoken leader, Jesus of Nazareth (Joaquin Phoenix).

Bright Moments Jazz

One of Sandpoint’s favorite bands plays one of the community’s best-loved venues – nice combo!

Gre3ne Trio

Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a solo artist; pair him up with two of his good friends and talented musicians and it rocks!

Lost Ox

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.-midnight

This genre-blending Portland band has been cooking up its own all-original mix of progressive rock, country Americana and funk since early 2017.

‘Northwoods Unleashed!’

Venue: Circle Moon Theatre, located on Highway 211, 3 1/2 miles north of Highway 2, near Newport, Wash.

Time: 6:30 p.m. dinner service, curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.Remember the old Ed Sullivan Show? That’s exactly the format you’ll experience at the 10th Annual Unleashed show by Northwoods Performing Arts. Director Terri L. Caldwell is organizing all manner of unbridled fun through skits, song and surprises.

Bridges Home Trio

Get ready for a night of original Americana, roots, blues and Celtic-influenced music as Tami, Dave & Paul play an evening of all-original Bridges Home music from their various albums. Sparkling three-part harmonies accompanied by multiple instruments, plus the stories that inspired the songs. Grab a few friends and join the fun.

Steve Rush, Ali Maverick Thomas, Denis Zwang, Ian Gaddie and Pam Burns offer an evening of dancing and fun. Each one brings their own flair to the party and truly crush it when they play together.

Down South Band

The Empty Pockets

POAC presents Missoula Children’s Theatre’s Blackbeard Auditions

Venue: Farmin-Stidwell Elementary Gymnasium, 1626 Spruce St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Roles available for students in grades K-12; students must be at least 5 years old to participate. Approximately 50-60 students will be cast in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Directors. There is no guarantee those who audition will be cast in the play. Students should arrive by the starting time and plan to stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 30 minutes after the auditions.
