DALBY IS HONORARY 2ND LIEUT.

Miss Susan Dalby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Dalby, Rte. 1, Sandpoint, is an Honorary 2nd Lieutenant and Platoon Sponsor for the Army ROTC Brigade at the University of Idaho. The Sponsor Corps assists the Cadet Brigade by acting as hostesses during rifle matches, drill meets and other ROTC functions. Miss Dalby is a freshman studying Art at the U of I.

DUFORT NEWS by Rachel Thompson

Saturday night your reporter and family found themselves in the middle of a flooded road. The car drowned out and Mr. Thompson had to crawl out on the hood and stand on the bumper to take the fan belt off the motor, in order to back out of the water. He didn’t think the water was very deep when we stared through but it was level with the floor of the car. Seems the little creek was too much for the old bridge. By morning the water was running within its boundaries.

Mrs. Mary Moon-Boehm returned from an eight weeks visit at Kansas City, Mo.

The old clothes for Belgian relief are ready for shipment at the Red Cross headquarters. The consignment will go to Brooklyn, N.Y.

POWDER IS CUT IN PRICE

Slowly but surely the high prices of commodities used in mining operations are being reduced and, while the process is not as rapid as we would like, the downward movement is still encouraging. The high cost of explosives is one of the most serious obstacles to resuming mining development.

NEWS FROM SELLE

Mr. Surby is making a potato sorter for Charles Selle.

Mr. Howe is home for a short time to plant garden and make improvements on his ranch.

ADDITIONAL LOCAL

H.A. Replogle and E.H. Aaron have both newly purchased Buick sixes.

Cedric Merrifield, Sandpoint soldier, was on a troop train of 600 returning overseas men which went through on the Great Northern this morning bound for Camp Lewis.

Captain Frank Strong, who accepted a position as teacher in the high school for next year, has been discharged from military service and is visiting his parents at Grove, Kan.
