April 16, 1969 — FIRE ALARM

Water boiled over and shorted out a range at 6:20 p.m. April 1 and firemen were called to the Verlyn Syth residence, 417 Washington. Firemen listed no fire damage to anything but the stove, which sustained some electrical damage.

NORTHSIDE SCHOOL NEWS

The eighth grade, with the help of seventh graders, is preparing the school yearbook.

On the 4th of April, members had a bake sale. The money will go to the eighth grade class trip.

The eighth grade elected new class officers. They are president, Sandy Lund; vice president, Stan Maurer; Secretary-treasurer, Polly Hart; reporters, JoAnn Dunn and Kathy Puckett. Reported by JoAnn Dunn.

THOMA GRADUATES NURSING SCHOOL

Deah Jean Thoma, a 1966 SHS graduate, has graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing, Spokane. Miss Thoma, the daughter of former Samuels community residents Mr. and Mrs. John Thoma, who now live in Canada, received a nursing scholarship provided by the Sandpoint Women of the Moose. Her senior year, she was awarded one of five scholarships given by the Alumnae Association. Miss Thoma will be employed at Sacred Heart Hospital.

April 16, 1919 — MIRROR LAKE LAND SOLD

The Humbird Lumber company has sold to the Caruthers brothers of Dietrich, this state, a section of land between Sagle and Talache. The Messrs. Caruthers have rented the old Holmes ranch, which adjoins their new property, and will occupy the place while clearing the section.

WILL SAVE SCHOOLS $90

Children living in the territory west of the Great Northern will earn $90 for the district by walking to school the remaining four weeks of the term. The school board last night decided to take off the “kid wagon” that has carried these children to and from school during the winter.

SCHOOLS HOLD LOAN RAFFLES

All schools of the state will have patriotic exercises this week, looking toward the coming Victory loan drive. County Superintendent LeHequet is fostering the movement, with the result that practically every school in Bonner county will present a patriotic program Friday.

LOCAL BRIEFS

Among the marriage licenses issued in Spokane last Wednesday was one to Wm. Smith and Jane Montague, both of Sandpoint.

Local Odd Fellows will hold high jinks April 26 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the order’s birth. Odd Fellows from Hope, Priest River and Athol will be guests of the local lodge.
