Singles players roll as Sandpoint routs Post Falls

| April 17, 2019 1:00 AM

Sandpoint tennis rode on their momentum from Monday night’s close 7-5 loss against Lewiston to beat 5A Post Falls 9-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

“It was the most dominating singles performance I’ve seen in years,” Sandpoint tennis head coach Kent Anderson wrote in an email afterwards. “The boys singles trio gave up a total of three games between them and the girls singles trio gave up a total of four games between them.”

Of the 12 matches of the day, only two needed a third set. Sandpoint routed the Trojans across the board: Four of the Bulldogs’ nine victories ended with 6-0 sweeps.

Sandpoint No. 1 boys doubles team Declan Plummer and Christian Story continued their winning ways, gaining extra praise from their coach after their 6-1, 6-0 victory. The duo has come into their own throughout the season so far; like all good doubles teams, the pair’s skillsets compliment each other.

“Declan and Christian continue to roll through the conference with dominating wins,” Anderson said. “Declan’s serves and penetrating forehands combine well with Christian’s consistency and quick net play. Post Falls was never able find an opening.”

All three of the boys singles teams won their matches while only giving up a set apiece.

“Charlie [Johnson] used his finesse to set up his points, then attacked with a vengeance when he got a short ball,” Anderson said.

Elsewhere, senior Hadley Goodvin provided the only 6-0, two-set sweep of the evening in girls singles.

The Bulldogs continue their busy week at Coeur d’Alene on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
