Weekend blooms with plenty of music, fun times

SANDPOINT — Easter weekend is packed with musicals, children’s theater, concerts, community sings Earth Day activities and, of course, Easter!

‘Annie’ is still on stage at SHS and POAC [resents Missoula Children’s Theater’s production of ‘Blackbeard’ on Saturday at the Panida.

Patrice Webb has a CD Release concert Friday night at DiLuna’s and the Bridges Home Trio plays Friday evening at the Pend d’Oreille Winery.

Thursday, April 18

‘Annie’

Venue: Sandpoint High School Auditorium, 410 Division Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. (Also on April 20)

Growing Dreams Productions presents the American musical Annie, featuring more than 60 local actors, singers and dancers from ages 8 to 18. In addition to performers, local youth also created and built the sets, props, costumes, make-up and more backstage; directed by Jeannie Hunter, with musical director Jon Brownell, choreographer Becky Lucas, and costumer Angie Aller.

Sandpoint Community Sing

Venue: Downtown Yoga, 301 Cedar St., No. 106, in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-8:30 p.m.

Community singing is the timeless ritual of coming together with others to co-create a rich musical experience through voice. Sandpoint Community Sing is a 90-minute weekly journey of songs about nature, life, love, emotions, activism, peace and the overall human experience. Songs are taught in the oral tradition of call and response. No singing or musical experience is necessary. Led by Kristine Rae.

Ladies Night Art Class

Venue: Cedar Street Bridge, corner of First & Cedar, in Sandpoint.

Time: 6-8:30 p.m.

Instructor: Megan Stafford. Enjoy tea, coffee, wine or beer, in the company of women, within your community, while creating three-dimensional works of art as you create your own dream box. Using elements of paper, paint, glue, wire and found objects, each artist will fashion a piece, incorporating words and images that hold personal intention and meaning.

Admission: $35, which includes art materials and a drink.

Jeremy James Meyer, a songwriter from Eugene, Ore., on tour in connection with the release of his self-titled album that has a wide range of influence, from original American roots rock n’ roll with a heavy folk/country/blues vibe.

Friday, April 19

‘Chasing Coral’

Venue: Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

Hosted by the Sandpoint Outdoor Adventure Club as a fundraiser for a group of Sandpoint students instructor John Hastings is taking to the Dominican Republic to work on coral reef restoration, “Chasing Coral” follows a team of divers, photographers and scientists out to photograph the elusive process of coral bleaching, a phenomenon happening at an unprecedented rate around the world from warming ocean temperatures.

Story Telling Through Art Class

Venue: Cedar Street Bridge, corner of First & Cedar, in Sandpoint.

Time: 3:30-5:15 p.m. (Also 3D Collage on April 26)

For ages 8-13. This week the theme is found art. Each week, instructor Megan Stafford will share a short inspirational story about teen experience and look at art created by teens. Then the class will launch into its own visual creations drawing from personal experiences, using wood, wire, cloth, tools and every day objects to tell our stories.

Admission: $5. Scholarships available through generous grant funding from the Bonner County Fund for Arts Enhancement and Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation.

Patrice Webb CD Release Concert

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

Celebrating the release of her new CD ‘In My Sentimental Dreaming’ — original songs that pay tribute to the swing and acoustic blues of the 20s, 30s and 40s. swing and acoustic blues. Although Patrice is often compared to 60s iconic folk singers such as Joan Baez and Judy Collins, she also takes inspiration from the music of Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Sister Rosetta Tharp and Django Reinhardt. Patrice will be join by Tom D’Orazi & Lonny Hawkins.

Earth Day Clean-Up

Venue: Sandpoint City Beach

Time: 10 a.m.

Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeepers and the city of Sandpoint present an Earth Day Sand Creek and Beach Clean-Up event. Everyone is welcome to join this family-friendly event — a great way to celebrate our Earth by cleaning up the watershed. Garbage bags, gloves, and snacks provided.

Lion’s Club Easter Egg Hunt

Venue: Lakeview Park, 609 S. Ella Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 10 a.m.

The Sandpoint Lions Club hosts the annual Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 1- 12. There will be separate areas set aside for each age group. No parents are allowed in the marked-off areas, but they can watch from the sidelines. Arrive early, as it’s always crowded and starts promptly at 10 am.

Missoula Children’s Theatre’s ‘Blackbeard’
