April reigns as entertainment options, fun blossom

SANDPOINT — Here we are, wrapping up April in style as the local scene lights up for the weekend.

Tonight, raise your voice in song at Downtown Yoga as Kristine Rae leads the popular Sandpoint Community Sing. On Friday, there’s a cool art class at Creations on the Cedar Street Bridge, plus the film ‘Modified’ starts its 3-day run at the Panida Little Theater.

Saturday night at the fairgrounds, the Festival at Sandpoint holds its fundraising extravaganza – get your tickets now before they sell out. Also Saturday, the Next Level Academy features a performance by Sadie Sicilia accompanied by her mom and dad, Mike Wagoner and Jenai Davis, on stage at the Panida.

Thursday, April 25

Sandpoint Community Sing

Venue: Downtown Yoga, 301 Cedar St., No. 106, in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-8:30 p.m.

Community singing is the timeless ritual of coming together with others to co-create a rich musical experience through voice. Sandpoint Community Sing is a 90-minute weekly journey of songs about nature, life, love, emotions, activism, peace and the overall human experience. Songs are taught in the oral tradition of call and response. No singing or musical experience is necessary. Led by Kristine Rae.

Trivia Takeover

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 4-8 p.m.

Bring your friends and family to Pend d’Oreille Winery for a friendly, competitive game of live trivia. Arrive early and order a glass of wine and bite to eat to support Kootenai Elementary School. A portion of all sales from 4-8 p.m. are donated to Kootenai Elementary. Questions are different every time. Fun for everyone. Enjoy a glass of wine and house-made breads and spreads. Teams encouraged, but not required.

Story-Poury Hour

Venue: Matchwood Brewing, 513 Oak St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 4-5 p.m.

Do your kids need a break from you? Let them with milk and cookies while listening to award-winning stories told by Matchwood’s finest storytellers while you sip a brew and visit with friends.

‘Modified’

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

The Panida is bringing back Modified! This winning documentary of 13 awards, including four Audience Favorite Awards, follows the filmmaker and her mother as they embark on a very personal and poignant investigative journey.

Modified is anchored around the filmmaker’s relationship to her mom, a gardener and food activist who battled cancer during the film’s production. Their intimate mother-daughter quest for answers, fuelled by a shared love of food, reveals the extent to which the agribusiness industry controls our food policies, making a strong case for a more transparent and sustainable food system.

Story Telling Through Art Class

Venue: Cedar Street Bridge, corner of First & Cedar, in Sandpoint.

Time: 3:30-5:15 p.m.

For ages 8-13. This week the theme is 3D Collage. Each week, instructor Megan Stafford will share a short inspirational story about teen experience and look at art created by teens. Then the class will launch into its own visual creations drawing from personal experiences, using wood, wire, cloth, tools and every day objects to tell our stories.

Admission: $5. Scholarships available through generous grant funding from the Bonner County Fund for Arts Enhancement and Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear Mike and Sadie Wagoner perform together. This father/daughter duo packs the house with captivating voice, favorite songs, and instrumental talent.

Miah Kohal Trio

This trio features the same classic rock energy as the band to get you moving and grooving, but with half the volume!

High Trees & Ammunition

Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

High Trees & Ammunition is a hard band to put in a box; they bring a wide range of different sounds to the table. From soft humorous & witty lullabies to all out, no holds barred rock & roll. One thing that sets them apart from the rest is their original songwriting.

Brendan Kelty Trio & Crooked Tooth

Crooked Tooth opens the show with soaring rock ‘n’ roll, acoustic music, and soulful songs. The Brendan Kelty Trio will entertain with a soulful sound drawn from gritty travel, wilderness living and personal relationships – simple but real and honest.

Festival at Sandpoint Fundraising Extravaganza

Venue: Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer, in Sandpoint.

Time: 5 p.m.

Now that we know the incredible summer lineup for the Festival at Sandpoint season ahead, it’s time to celebrate with the Festival Fundraising Extravaganza. Attendees enjoy unlimited tastings of premier wines, a five-star gourmet dinner, musical entertainment featuring Brown Salmon Truck, a special selection of live and silent auction items, raffles, and the announcement of the Festival’s 2019 poster artist.

‘Swingin’ in the Rain’

The fun begins with an East Coast Swing lesson taught by a professional instructor from 7-8 p.m., followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, drawings, and lots of fun.

Singles, couples, and all levels of dancers are welcome to take part in the fun.
