ITA hosting annual volunteer party

| April 27, 2019 1:00 AM

Want to practice bear spray on a grizzly?

Well, not on a real grizzly. At this year’s Idaho Trails Association volunteer party in northern Idaho, a renowned grizzly bear expert and his stuffed bear will be on hand to trail those attending the event on how to respond to bear encounters and how to best use bear spray.

ITA will be holding its northern Idaho 2019 Volunteer Party on Saturday, May 4 at the Dabrowski farm near Sandpoint. Tom Dabrowski, president of the ITA, reported that they’ll have special presentations and demonstrations on bear safety and bear spray, first aid and what to do if an accident occurs or you’re lost, show and tell on new hiking and backpacking gear, and a talk about the trail projects that ITA has planned for 2019. There will also be a presentation with beautiful photos covering some of the best hikes and backpacks in the western USA. Of course, the cross cut saws will be set up so everyone can practice their saw skills.

The party starts at 2 p.m. Saturday May 4, at 877 Heath Lake Road in Sagle. After the talks and demos, ITA will have dinner for everyone who signs up. Dinner is free for all those who volunteered on a project last year.

Come on out to the farm on May 4 to see old friends, make new ones, look at fantastic scenery, and learn about how you can help save Idaho’s beautiful hiking trails. To sign up for the dinner, please go to the ITA website at idahotrailsassociation.org.
