Aug. 8, 1969 — BILLIE KING RESIGNS

Billie King, Bonner County treasurer, has tendered her resignation, asking to be relieved of her duties on Sept. 8. She said she had contemplated the action for some time.

Miss King is the dean of county employees. She served 12 years as secretary to the county agent, probate judge and surveyor prior to entering the treasurer’s office. That was in the days when a single secretary served all three offices.

A Democrat, Miss King has been re-elected every two years since 1944, most of the time by the largest vote of any candidate for county office on any ticket. She also has served her party as treasurer of the central committee for many years.

The timber association reduced its force from 500 to 50 and the forestry service from several hundred to the usual number of lookouts and patrols. All the small fires are out entirely while scattered spots of smoldering embers mark the areas traversed by the larger conflagrations.

The government will be asked for the necessary space and to make the design. The proposal of a memorial McKinnon hospital the committee felt was too great an undertaking.

BIGGEST CHAUTAUQUA CROWDS YET

With one of the best programs given here on its regular summer circuit, the best attendance and a more favorable contract for next year, the Ellison-White chautauqua will close its six-day circuit here Friday night. This year the week’s estimated receipts have been $1900 and the local committee feels that it has a cinch in the financial outlook for next year.
