Aug. 15, 1969 – NEW COUNCILMAN

Mayor Gray proposed William “Bill” Lindt as councilman to succeed Francis McDonnell, who has accepted a coaching post in a Boise school and is leaving shortly. Lindt received unanimous approval of the council.

Lindt, who has lived in Sandpoint all his life, is employed at Sandpoint Motor Co. He is a former grand knight of the local Knights of Columbus chapter. He will serve until the next election when he will have the opportunity to seek the remaining two years of McDonnell’s term.

DEPUTIES PURCHASE BADGES

Deputies Jerry James and Ken Best recently purchased badges of the new seven-point design out of their own pockets, according to Sheriff Robert Wilcox.

SHS FOOTBALL PREREQUISITES

Equipment will be issued to members of the SHS football squad at the high school gym this Saturday, according to the Bulldogs’ head Coach Ken Beaudoin. Beaudoin announced two prerequisites for all boys planning to wear the Bulldog uniform. Each must have a neat haircut prior to drawing equipment Saturday, and each must have had a physical examination prior to the first practice next Monday.

Pend d’Oreille Review

Aug. 15, 1919 – SOME HOG

W.A. Hill of Laclede a few days ago sold a hog to the Bonner Meat company, netting him $94. This porker was born in June, 1918 on a ranch near Laclede. It was not a corn-fed hog but an honest-to-gosh, good patriotic American specimen and it grew and grew and grew, until it finally became a young mountain of ham and bacon and the owner was forced to sell him before he became of such size that he would threaten the county bridges on the way to market. His weight was 470 pounds and he knocked down 20 cents a pound for his owner.

MAIN HIGHWAY COMING SOON

A start has at last been made on the “north and south” state highway in this county. The district highway engineer for northern Idaho met with Bonner county commissioners Monday and said the $28,000 state money apportioned this county by the last legislature is ready and the state will start at once on initial surveys of the routes north and south from Sandpoint. It is likely construction will be under way early next year, the county needing next year’s road and bridge fund to help with its share of the expense.

CITY BREVITIES

Marguerite, 7-year-old daughter of Lee Thurman, residing on the Great Northern road, suffered a bad fracture of the elbow Sunday when she fell from a wagon in the dooryard.
