Aug. 22, 1969 – MARINA ROOF REPAIRED

The largest roof in Sandpoint, that on the Sandpoint Marina storage building, is being repaired by Ken Langreder of Cocolalla. The building once housed the Mountain States Power Co. standby steam plant.

SANDPOINT OFFICE EXECS PROMOTED

It was announced today that effective immediately, the following promotions have been made by the Idaho First National Bank: Terry P. Smith, former Sandpoint assistant manager is manager of the bank’s new office in Pinehurst, Idaho; Gary D. Sass, former loan officer, is assistant manager in Sandpoint; William L. Dowling, Sandpoint operations officer, is now Sandpoint loan officer; Robert S. Wheeler of the Sandpoint office and James Judd from the Lewiston main office have been named operations officer and installment loan officer, respectively, of the Sandpoint bank.

MERRILIN SNYDER WINS AWARD

Merrilyn Snyder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Snyder, 501 N. Fourth (Ed. Note 2019: now the K2 Motel), a seventh grade student at Sandpoint Junior High, is a first award winner in the Encyclopaedia Britannica’s 200th anniversary competition for research assignments. She has been awarded a set of the 24-volume 1969 edition of the encyclopaedia. Her teacher, Mrs. Evelyn Snedden, will receive a three-volume replica of Encyclopaedia Britannica’s first edition, published in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1768.

Aug. 22, 1919 – LOCAL BRIEFS

All mothers of sons and daughters who served their country in the war with Germany are asked to meet at the courthouse, Saturday at 2 p.m. for the purpose of effecting a local organization of the American War Mothers.

M.B. Dunkle, the new high school principal has bought a home on Sixth avenue and moved his family here from Hope.

WEDDING VOWS IN BATHING SUITS

There was quite a unique wedding on the Miller dock at Midas Sunday. Miss Opal Miller was made the wife of Sidney V. Rollins of Washington, D.C. by Justice of the Peace Mryvin Davis of Sandpoint. The bride, groom and their attendants were costumed in bathing suits of the one-piece variety. The bride, in a Persian silk suit with a helmet-shaped bath cap tied under her chin but allowing her luxuriant curling hair to form a frame for her piquant brunette beauty, was certainly a picture long to be remembered. The many pleasure seekers spending the weekend at Garfield Bay thronged the docks and showered congratulations and rice over the happy pair who, thus suitably attired, started on the good ship Matrimony for the Port of Happiness.
