Wampus Cats beat down by Spartans 65-36

PRIEST RIVER — Clark Fork boys basketball fell to Priest River 65-36 Friday night.
Prior to Friday’s game against the Spartans, Clark Fork took down Kellogg JV 60-41 on Thursday in its season opener.
The Wampus Cats (1-1) fell behind early to Priest River trailing 17-7 after the first quarter.
Things got even worse in the second quarter as the Wampus Cats only scored two points, giving the Spartans a 37-9 halftime lead.
Head coach Heath Beason said turnovers and fouls got the Wampus Cats in an early hole and the team struggled staying focused on the game plan.
“It seemed like our legs were still on the bus,” Beason wrote in a text.
But Clark Fork stepped it up in the second half and kept up with the Spartans. Priest River only outscored the Wampus Cats by one point in the second half.
“At half we regrouped came out with a new confidence and started getting back in the game but we were so far behind we wanted to show who we really are,” Beason wrote. “Proud we didn’t shut down. We fought to the end.”
Junior Cameron Garcia led the team with 14 points while senior Josh Constantin added 8.
The Wampus Cats stay on the road for the third straight game to begin the season to face Coeur d’Alene JV at 7 p.m. Monday.
