Lois Eileen “Loi” Broderson, 78, passed away at home in her sleep on Thursday, December 19, 2019, in Ponderay, Idaho.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019, at the Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Chad Wilks officiating.
Loi was born on April 11, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Bennie and Gunda Burk. She attended Minnehaha Academy and Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. She then received her nursing degree at Swedish Hospital, and she later received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Washington.
Loi married John Broderson on June 17, 1967, in Minneapolis. She worked as a nurse at schools, hospitals, doctor’s offices, and the public health department in her career. The family has lived in Anchorage, Alaska, Helena, Montana, Sandpoint, Idaho, Lakeview, Oregon, and Pendleton, Oregon. In 1995, Loi and John returned to Idaho to build on their land in Ponderay. Loi continued to work as a public health nurse and retired in 2003.
Loi and John are members of the Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene. She was active in a high school student exchange program, CASA, and foster care. During her life she enjoyed knitting, canning, playing games, Bible studies, and church activities. Loi’s love for the Lord showed in everything she did. Her strong faith and assurance of salvation were evident in her life. Loi was a loyal friend, a compassionate listener, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a loving wife. She will be remembered for her kind heart and joyful spirit.
She is survived by her husband, John Broderson of Ponderay; two children, Chris (Emily) Broderson of Minneapolis and Joy (Mike) Shoup of Coeur d’Alene; seven grandchildren, Katherine, Samuel, and Matthew; Morgan, Jake, Eli, and Daniel; and one sister, Dianne (Don) Kress of Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jane Substad; and a nephew, Jay Substad.
