TWO-DAY VACATION FROM WINTER

Two bright, fairly warm days pulled the county, at least temporarily, out of severe weather.

Bonner County commissioners kept at their battle with the snow, taking advantage of the clear days to improve and widen rural roads which are still primarily one-lane wide. Berms and drifts make most roads look like icy canyons. Commissioners took their turns at the controls of plows to keep equipment going.

In Sandpoint, snow is piled so high on some streets that residences are not readily visible and it is an adventure to back out of a driveway.

EMERGENCY SNOWMOBILE USE OKAY

Sheriff Wilcox and Chief of Police Elliot have come up with a policy for emergency use of snowmobiles. Persons with a real need to use the machines to get to work or to the main roads will be allowed, but should call authorities before. No citations will be issued and the user can continue until he can get his licensed vehicle on the road.

NEWS FROM MIDAS

Leo Evans of Cedar Creek returned from overseas this morning. He had a very decided scar of cheek and nose which shows conclusively he “went over the top.” “Every little lakeport has a hero all its own.”
