Boat show earned international honors

SANDPOINT — The Inland Empire Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society has been awarded the “No. 1 Chapter of the Year” award at its annual International Show in Michigan. It’s the first time a chapter — there are 55 chapters with a membership in excess of 8,000 — that has won this coveted award West of the Mississippi.

The award is given to the chapter who has been outstanding in their development, activities, member participation and overall community support.

Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce officials said the recognition would not have been possible without the support the event receives from the community. This year, the theme for the boat show is “over the top” this year held the weekend of July 12-13 with boating on the lake on July 14.

Boat show organizers are hoping for record turnout for the Sandpoint show, which remains the only professionally judged show in the Pacific Northwest. Because of that, the show draws some pretty special boats and owners to the community. This year, for the first time, the public is invited to the awards presentation by the judges who will talk a little about the selection criteria and process which is truly unique to the Sandpoint show.
