Woman is charged with witness tampering
SANDPOINT — Criminal charges continue to pile up in the aftermath of a felony assault case, court records show.
Destiny Dancing Flower Day was arrested last weekend for allegedly threatening a witness in the case and aiding and abetting the violation of court-imposed no-contact order.
Day, 22, made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday via video feed from the jail. Information on the appointment of counsel and bail was not immediately available on Monday.
Day is accused of threatening the alleged victim in the assault case pending against her brother, Jayden Mark Day, on Jan. 22, the day before the woman was to testify at a preliminary hearing. The woman declined to testify because of threats she received from Day’s family members, according to a probable cause affidavit. The charges against Jayden Day were dismissed but swiftly reinstated, court records show.
Jayden Day was re-arrested alongside his grandmother, Carol Anne Day, who is also charged with witness tampering and aiding and abetting the no-contact order violation. Jayden Day initially urged his grandmother not to contact the alleged victim, but allegedly hatched a plan in the Bonner County Jail to thwart his prosecution by using family members to try and persuade her not to testify, a probable cause affidavit alleges.
Those efforts are documented in social media posts, text messages and recorded phone calls emanating from the jail, court records indicate.
Jayden Day, 18, is accused of battering and threatening a woman as he drove east on U.S. Highway 2 between Priest River and Sandpoint on Jan. 14. He allegedly held the woman against her will in the pickup truck and threatened to drive into an oncoming tractor trailer.
Jayden Day’s preliminary hearing on the underlying charges, in addition to a witness intimidation charge, is set for Wednesday. Preliminary hearings are also set for Wednesday in the cases of Destiny Day and Carol Day, records show.
