Adult ski racing series commences

Hampton Cup – Mission Ridge, WA hosted the annual Hampton Cup last weekend with two Slalom races. The event was run on a near perfect, very hard, surface and the local racers performed well.

Baden Brenner skied consistently, posting results of 10th and 14th. Teammate Wesley Simko also had a strong weekend, finishing 13th and 18th respectively.

Avery Edmundson finished 18th and 22nd while her sister Erika posted a 13th place finish in the second slalom. All of these racers skied or bettered their points.

Speed – SARS hosted a very successful speed series last week. Hope you had a chance to watch these young athletes go all out in the course.

Due to excellent organization and kind weather, every racer was afforded three DH training runs, two downhills and two Super Gs. There are only a handful of speed events every season, so these opportunities are critical to the athletes.

The only local competitor, Addison McNamara, was 34th and 37th in Downhill and 24th and 27th in Super G. Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this event possible.

FAST Blast – The youth league also had speed races this weekend, hosted by 49 Degrees North. Saturday featured Super G training, plus two races, for U12 and above. Giant Slalom was offered for the rest of the league on Sunday.

A number of local athletes participated. Cadin Billstin had the fullest weekend, finishing fifth and sixth for U12 Boys in Super G and sixth in Giant Slalom.

Jeru Gidley continued his strong season with Gold in the U10 Giant Slalom and Wyatt Lemon was 13th for U8 Boys. On the girls’ side, Halle Wyman was 15th for U12s, and Elaina Stiller was third for U8 girls.

Locals Logan Johnston, Dakota Landwehr, Ella Mahlum, James Schriber, Faith Stephany, Hanna Stiller, Rhys Taylor and Sophia Taylor also participated.

Starlight – Time for the adults to play

Action started Friday for this four-week event.

Brian Sturgis and Kelly Farmin were the fatest Alpine racers; Ezra Stafford and Dig Chrismer were the fastest Telemark racers; and Dylan Taylor and Heather Johnston were the fastest snowboarders.

However, the two fastest individuals after handicaps for age, gender, bad living habits, questionable judgment, means of conveyance, etc. were Tommy Letourneau and Melinda Rossman.

The first week team standings put “Fabulous” in first place, followed by “TOTE” and “WWF’ing Awesome.”

The theme for this year’s series is WWF and the coveted Best Name award this week goes to the “Rope Ducking Rowdy Boys.”
