Michael Wallace Ashby

With great sadness, the family of Michael Wallace Ashby announces his unexpected passing on January 7, 2019, from an apparent heart attack. Michael was born in Seattle, Washington on January 29, 1951, and grew up with his four siblings and parents on their farm on Vashon Island, in the Puget Sound area. His working career, and that of his wife Mary, was spent in Seattle. After retirement, Mike and Mary toured the country in their RV for two years before deciding to make their residence near Sandpoint, Idaho. Michael said the area was reminiscent of Vashon Island, and was further drawn to the area since his father, Wallace, had been raised in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. His beloved wife passed away after a long battle with ALS, and Michael subsequently moved closer to Sand-point with his dog, Lucy, purchasing a residence in Dover. Michael was active in Rotary Club and an enthusiastic yoga practitioner.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his brother Allen (Anne) and his sisters Shirley (Jim) Mallonee, Claudia, and Linda (Nick) St. Laurent, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Rest in peace, Michael, you deserve it after your years of caring for Mary and battling your Parkinson’s disease.
