SHS Player-a-Day Countdown: Brandon Casey

In preparation for the Bulldogs’ biggest games of the year, the Bee will highlight one (or two) Sandpoint boys basketball players every issue in the first-ever SHS Basketball Player-a-Day series.
The countdown continues with junior forward Brandon Casey.
Even though things Brandon Casey does on the court don’t jump off the page, a closer look reveals why he broke into Sandpoint’s starting lineup.
Perhaps this is a fitting description for a player Sandpoint head coach Wade Engelson called “quiet, unassuming and humble.” His play might not be the flashiest, but his sound fundamentals and consistent rebounding have been vital this year.
Casey’s patient, methodical play is an ideal compliment to fellow forward Alex Stockton’s bruising, up-tempo style. He has a soft touch around the rim, making him effective on the offensive glass.
Most importantly, his height gives Sandpoint’s starting five versatility. When playing against taller teams like Lakeland, Shadle Park or Moscow, Casey has risen to the occasion against their bigs.
And it’s no coincidence those games were his best.
