Frederick Bruce Van Nostrand, 79, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 in Sandpoint, Idaho. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Interment will be held at the Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery in Medical Lake, Wash..

Fred was born on January 1, 1940 in Nunda, New York to Robert and Marion Van Nostrand. After his school he served in the United States Navy. Fred married Sharon Kay McMurtury in 1960 in Nevada. They made their home in California before moving to Sublimity, OR. They divorced in 1977.

He worked for 30 years at PNB / US West. He married Carol Thiessen on June 24, 1978 in Salem, OR. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed renovating houses. He moved to Sandpoint in 2000.

He enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, skiing and the great outdoors, as well as wood working, wood turning (bowls) and loved his dogs.

Fred is survived by his wife Carol Van Nostrand of Sandpoint, ID; two children Christopher (Lori) Bruce of Albany, OR, Catherine Petersen of Portland, OR, four grandchildren; Amber Sams Gielish, Rachel Sams, Sean Van Nostrand and Brady Van Nostrand and two great grandchildren Austin and Brynlee, brother Mike (Sue) Van Nostrand of Mt. Morris, NY, sister Penny Penna of Salem, OR and his dogs Cooper and Maggy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Bob Van Nostrand.
