On March 12, we are voting on a new $25 million school levy.

In 2017 Dr. Don Coberly, superintendent for Boise, made $172,228 with 26,000 students, 3,900 staff and 45 schools.

Mr. Shawn Woodward, superintendent of LPOS,D made $171,404 with 3,800 students, 900 staff and 12 schools. Just $824 less than a man with 34 years experience, a doctorate degree, 6.5 times the students, 4.3 times the staff and 3.75 times the schools.

I’m told Superintendent Woodward at $14,492 a month and CFO Lisa Hals at $12,037 a month won’t be getting raises from the levy. I hope they survive.

Meanwhile, Lake Pend Oreille School Board members refuse to disclose what “contractual goals” both Woodward and Hals fulfilled to receive double salary every June from 2014-2017 — $88,000 between the two.

Also, I’m led to believe if we don’t continue their exorbitant wages, which comes from taxes of some sort, they may move. So move … my bet is at the way people are leaving California there’d be 100 qualified people applying for their jobs by the end of the day.

I also resent the scare tactics as in the “Bonner County economy will suffer” and the guilt trips-”don’t you care about the kids?” I care very much about the kids, but I care even more as a disabled person with a retired husband living on a fixed income we’ll eventually be taxed out of our home.

I read in the Bee one agenda of the governor’s is new teachers receive a $40,000 base pay. So why pass a levy that 84 percent is for personnel, mostly new teachers?
