Woman jailed for kicking officer

PONDERAY — A Bonner County woman avoided felony charges after allegedly driving her GMC sport utility vehicle at sheriff’s deputies on Selle Road on Thursday.

Deputies were summoned to summoned to the 100 block of Shingle Mill Road shortly after 4 p.m. after receiving a report of disorderly conduct, according to court documents.

Two deputies in separate patrol vehicles positioned themselves near the Selle Road intersection, where a Lake Pend Oreille School District bus was in sight on Forest Siding Road. The GMC was seen speeding westbound on Selle, which was caked with snow, toward the stationary deputies, a probable cause affidavit said.

The GMC, the affidavit said, slid sideways past one patrol vehicle and the other deputy put his vehicle into the ditch to avoid being struck. The suspect vehicle was later found at Taco Bell and the suspect, Laura Lizann Dubcak, was found at an adjacent beer tap room. She was taken into custody after a brief struggle in which she allegedly kicked a Ponderay Police officer, the affidavit said.

Dubcak, 38, was arrested on two counts of felony assault on law officer for allegedly driving at the deputies on Selle Road, although she was ultimately charged with misdemeanor battery on a law officer for kicking the officer and inattentive driving, court records show.

Dubcak is scheduled to be arraigned in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
