We have 13 children and our family schedule is inevitably chaotic. We’ve been with Idaho Virtual Academy for 10 years. Public school at home has met our children’s academic needs as individuals.

Our daughter Moriah is the editor for the IDVA school newspaper, developing her writing skills through interviews with staff, students, and featured alumni. Being involved in IDVA’s online clubs gave her an outlet for socialization within the virtual school setting.

Moriah is a graduating senior at IDVA this year and has been taking college classes for two years, as part of her high school curriculum for dual credits; she’s working towards an associates degree while she’s still in high school. She’s excited about her next steps and is interested in becoming a police officer. Moriah’s joined the Explorer program in Coeur d’Alene where she does monthly ride-alongs with an officer and completes training to join the force; but she says her degree comes first.

IDVA provides us with challenging curriculum, robust resources, and ships all our materials to our front door: books, laptop, even a printer. Education must meet the needs of the student and IDVA does that. I urge the state of Idaho to continue protecting our school choice options.
