Groups hosting silviculture program

A program on silviculture will take place Monday, Feb. 25, at CREATE Arts Center, 900 W. Fourth St., Newport.

Sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe and the Selkirk Alliance for Science, the program will run from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Silviculture is the practice of controlling the growth, composition, health, and quality of forests to meet diverse needs and values. The Kalispel Tribe’s silviculturalist, Tim Larkoski, recently completed the process to become a certified silviculturalist. this is no easy task and requires a rigorous academic regimen of peer-review and certification. Kalispel officials said they are excited to share the findings of this study.

The program is the latest edition in the tribe’s “Power of Science” series.
