On Jan. 20 in the Daily Bee, we learned Bonner General Health, Inc., a for-profit organization, has been illegally using Bonner County taxpayer money for years to help fund their operations. Apparently, as far back as 1996, and possibly as early as 1969, between $16-30 million has been siphoned from Bonner County property owners.

“The Idaho Attorney General’s Office contends that the (BGH) district is using property tax revenue to sustain operations at the private hospital, which is contrary to the state’s constitution.”

Current and former board members who were aware of this situation and took no action should be ashamed. Former board members who didn’t do their due diligence and were unaware of the situation should be embarrassed.

And, I’d like to know who paid the $220,000 the former chief financial officer embezzled? Did taxpayers pay for that as well? Or did she pay back the full amount as directed by the court?

It’s always about the money. Corruption at its best, even at the local level. Is there no such thing as integrity anymore?

As a property owner, I just want to know when my refund check will be arriving.
