Since moving to the Sandpoint area 16 years ago I have always wondered why local gasoline vendors charge up to 30 cents more for a gallon gas than the stations in Coeur d’Alene. I have noticed that gas is often less expensive in Bonners Ferry, Clark Fork and Priest River so delivery charges apparently are not the answer to the price discrepancy.

I always tell family and friends to fill their tanks before coming to Sandpoint. A trip to Coeur d’Alene often includes topping off the tank to avoid purchasing gas in Sandpoint. Do any of the local station owners have the courage to address this issue? I understand the concept of whatever the market will bear, but that doesn’t make it right to gouge your neighbors just because you can.
