Levy talks head to Priest Lake

| February 24, 2019 12:00 AM

PRIEST LAKE — The Priest Lake Public Library will host an informational meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 27, regarding the West Bonner County School District’s supplemental levy proposal.

The district is asking voters to approve a two-year, $6 million levy — or $3 million per year. In addition, the district is asking voters to approve a permanent supplemental override. The permanent override would allow the district to levy up to $3 million each year without having to ask voters to approve it every two years.

School districts in Idaho are eligible for the override after seven consecutive years of voter-approved levies that account for more than 20 percent of the district’s general fund.

The proposed levy would replace the current levy and the current levy rate would go down because of the sale of lots at Priest Lake. The monthly cost to taxpayers per $100,000 with a homeowners exemption would be $6.13. The ballot will go to voters March 12.

The Priest Lake meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and WBCSD Superintendent Paul Anselmo and WBCSD trustee Margaret Hall will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions. Refreshments will be provided.
