Let’s take a look at the bigger picture of what lies ahead for Bonner County residents. On March 12, both school districts have supplemental levy questions. In West Bonner, they are asking to make it permanent. Lake Pend Oreille School District wants a 49-percent increase.

LPOSD will be following up their supplemental levy with a $39 million facilities levy as only Phase 1 of their plan. They may deny it but the architect report exists.

There are more than 50 taxing districts in the county. Since government tends to grow, you should count on those taxing districts silently taking their allowable increases every year.

There has been talk that we need a new jail — more property taxes.

Don’t forget the new Medicaid expansion costs. How is the state going to generate the funding needed to cover this massive bill? That’s right — it will come out of your wallet in one form and/or another.

We are heading down the road to Californication. Many Bonner County residents thought they were escaping the control an overbearing government regulations and taxes, only to find out Idaho is not as red as it claims to be.

Silence is consent. You need to be engaged, vigilant, and vote against the $25 million school levy on March 12.
