BCSA offers scholarships

Students, regardless of age, are encouraged to apply for the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association scholarships, given in honor of Leo Hadley and other outstanding sportsmen and women in Bonner County.

Three $500 scholarships for use during the 2019-2020 academic year are available. Bonner County residents who are graduates of, or who are currently enrolled in a public, private, or home school program, and who have successfully completed a hunter education course are eligible.

Scholarship winners for 2018 were: Thomas E. Luckey of Coolin, 2017 Priest River Lamanna High School graduate, attending the University of Idaho, $250; Ciera Bailey of Sandpoint, 2018 Sandpoint High school graduate, attending the College of Idaho, $250; Maclain Orion Stultz of Sagle, 2018 Sandpoint High school graduate, attending North Idaho College, $500; and Anthony W. Storro of Blanchard, 2017 Priest River Lammana High School graduate, attending the University of Idaho, $500.

Applicants may apply by completing an application which is available at bonnercountysportsmen.org or writing a letter of request to “BCSA Scholarship”, PO Box 1011, Sandpoint, ID 83864.

Students planning to advance their education, and who are interested in outdoor and conservation activities, have completed a hunter education program, and may have personal or family participation in local sportsmen and civic organizations are encouraged to apply.

The scholarship is open to adults as well as youth, and the scholarship recipients will be chosen by June 1, 2019. Scholarship applications will also be available at the Bonner County Gun ’n Horn Show, March 1, 2, and 3, 2019 at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

Postmark deadline for application is April 15, 2019.

The scholarship was originally started as a memorial to sportsman and community leader Leo Hadley, who passed away in 1998. Leo was well-known for his community service. The scholarship has been expanded to honor and memorialize other outstanding sportspersons.
