Sandpoint soccer offers pair of youth spring leagues

Sign-ups for Sandpoint Recreational soccer and Kick Start soccer leagues for this spring are now open.

What follows is a brief overview of each league, plus relevant sign-up details.

Sandpoint Recreational Soccer, April 8-May 25

The Sandpoint Rec League aims to provide a quality recreational youth soccer program that facilitates personal and athletic development for players of all skill levels in a safe, positive, and supportive environment once more this season.

The program philosophy is as follows: The program is intended to help players develop soccer skills in a fun atmosphere. In addition to soccer skills, the program seeks to develop character, sportsmanship, and discipline in players.

Player development and equal participation should take precedence over winning, even during the tournament.

Forms are available online at the Sandpoint Library, and at Sandpoint Sports in Ponderay (by Taco Bell).

Teams practice at the local Elementary Schools (Farmin-Stidwell, Washington, Kootenai, Northside, and Sagle) and play games on Saturdays at Farmin-Stidwell Fields. If enough players and a coach sign up, practices at Southside and Hope Elementary Schools as well.

Practices start the week of April 8 (weather and field conditions permitting); games start April 20 and go through May 25.

Coaches are always needed. As an extra incentive, those who sign up to be coaches will receive a 50 percent off his or her child’s registration fees. Background checks will be conducted on all coaches.

The coaches’ meeting is on April 8, then coaches will call their players’ parents afterwards.

Kick Start Soccer, April 30-May 28

Kick Start Soccer is a soccer skills camp for children ages 2–3 that meets every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m.

All five sessions will be held at the Forrest Bird Charter School Field, located at 614 S. Madison Ave.

Kick Start is coached by Joel Aispuro, and he will be assisted by Sandpoint Strikers U14 players.

Fees are $40, which includes a personalized t-shirt. Size 3 soccer balls area available for an extra $10.
