Hot entertainment heats up wintertime activities
SANDPOINT – So here we are, both feet into the year 2019. Hope you’ve gotten your rest after the busy holidays, because the entertainment schedule is as packed as ever.
Lots of live music – as usual – all over town and, at long last, the amazing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ film comes to the big screen at the Panida starting Friday night. There’s a cool kid’s camp for winter fun Friday up at Schweitzer and Saturday brings free admission to our historical museum.
Also on the roster, open mic night tonight up at the Pearl Theater in Bonners Ferry, Jon Brownell on piano Sunday afternoon at Pend d’Oreille Winery’s tasting room, and Holly Walker hosts a paint and sip session on Tuesday in the tasting room.

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound.
While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.

‘Welcome to Marwen’

Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation — a testament to the most powerful women he knows — through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one.

Swing & Line Dancing
Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Line dancing lessons open the evening, then put it to practice from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Country Swing lessons to follow, then jump in with both boots 7:30-8:30 p.m. Presented by the Country Swingers and the Panida.
Admission: $8 for one class, $15 for both, available at the Panida Little Theater.
Kid’s Winter Fun Day Mini-Camp
Venue: Schweitzer’s ‘Hermit’s Hollow’
Time: 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Kaniksu Land Trust hosts a Winter Fun Day for children ages 8-12. Spend the day exploring the joy of snowy play, including snowshoeing and tubing at Schweitzer’s Hermit’s Hollow. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

The Ronaldos

Vannah Oh!

Vanna Oh! mixes the American staples — blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz — to pay homage to the last century of Rock ‘n Roll evolution. She uses the electric guitar as a tool of empowerment for a gender left out of much of rock-and-roll history, and wields it deftly to create dynamic rhythms and ear-catching hooks.

The Conversation – ‘Juta Geurtsen: Idaho Commission on the Arts’ at Ivano’s Ristorante

Geurtsen will present on grants and services available from Idaho’s state arts agency. The Idaho Commission on the Arts has funding opportunities for individuals, educators, schools, units of government and nonprofit organizations conducting arts programs for the public. Geurtsen will share helpful tips on grant writing.

Friends of the Guitar Hour presents Larry Almeida in Concert

If you enjoy Leon Atkinson’s weekly show, “The Guitar Hour”, on Spokane Public Radio-KPBX-FM, you’re in for a real treat with this ongoing classical guitar concert series.
Larry Almeida has performed throughout the U.S., and in Canada. From 1978 to 1981, he was a member of the guitar faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. From 1982 to 1992, he taught guitar at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. He studied extensively with Michael Lorimer and Aaron Shearer and has performed in Master classes with Leo Brouwer, Abel Carlevaro, Pepe Romero and Oscar Ghiglia.
