SANDPOINT — It’s an event that will see writers and artists unite.

The free verbal-visual event is a four-part activity that is open to poets, short prose/story writers, balladeers, painters, illustrators, sculptors, fiber artists and the like. A collaboration between Sandpoint Parks & Recreation and East Bonner County Library District, all activities of this event will take place at the Sandpoint Library and are free for participating high school and adult artists/writers. A minimum of six artists and six writers are needed for this event with a maximum of 20 writers and 20 artists.

Part 1: The exchange will occur on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 2-3 p.m. Participants meet and swap pieces by a “draw out-of-the-hat” process. Each participant may bring copies of one or two pieces of work. A full explanation of the visual-verbal process will be given at the exchange. Writers are limited to 3, 8.5-inch by 11-inch pages per written piece and art pieces are not to be bigger than 3 inches by 3 inches.

Part 2: Each person will take a copy of the piece(s) home for three weeks to create an inspired companion piece in their genre.

Part 3: The presentation will occur on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 2-4 p.m. Each set of writer/artist, in turn, will give a brief explanation of their companion pieces and the inspiration behind their creations. The general public is invited to this portion of the event.

Part 4: Participants’ works will be displayed from Feb. 18-April 1 in the lobby cases of Sandpoint Library. All pieces must be mounted/framed nicely for display.

Online registration deadline for the visual-verbal event is Jan. 15. Register at sandpointidaho.gov/parksrecreation or call Sandpoint Parks & Recreation at 208-263-3613 for more information.
