Festival announces Summer Youth Music Camp

| January 5, 2019 12:00 AM

Festival at Sandpoint officials are pleased to announce the organization’s second Summer Youth Music Camp, June 24-27, 2019, at Sandpoint High School.

Registration is under way and all young musicians ages 8-18 are welcome. Best of all, participants’ tuition is generously underwritten by The Festival at Sandpoint’s educational mission, so the only cost to the student is the $25 registration fee.

Camp Director Dr. Jason Moody, a Sandpoint native who is currently first violin with the Spokane Symphony, will lead four fun-filled days of music instruction with classes including orchestra, band, choir chamber music, jazz band, classical guitar, harp, bucket beat percussion, piano, fiddle ensemble, flute ensemble, folk dance, melody composition, music theory, master classes and more!

The week will kick off with a Festival at Sandpoint Faculty All-Star Concert on Monday, June 24, at the Panida Theater and culminate with a Grand Finale Student Concert on Thursday, June 27. In addition to four days of instruction in a myriad of disciplines, other activities will include a picnic at City Beach, free lunches and snacks daily.

The all-star faculty includes many of the area’s finest artists and instructors including: Mika Hood (cello), Tom Walton (jazz band), Leon Atkinson (classical guitar), Jon and Bruce Brownell (choir), Ryan Dignan (percussion), Rachel Gordon (band), Dr. Michael Keepe (saxophone and chamber band), Larry Mooney (guitar ensemble), Anita Perkins (viola), Jennifer Hille (music theory and oboe), Karen Dignan (violin and dance), Caytlin Reese (piano), Sigi Ribiero (clarinet and melody composition), Laurie Stevens (piano), and Earecka Tregenza Moody (harp).

The Festival at Sandpoint is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose educational mission is fueled by its Maestro Circle of donors and dedicated grant funds supporting the Festival’s symphonic and educational programming.
