DOVER — A Sandpoint motorist who crashed on Syringa Heights Road early Friday morning died from a medical emergency, according to Idaho State Police.

State police said David A. Darling was headed eastbound in a 2001 Toyota Highlander when he lost control of the midsize crossover sport utility vehicle and struck a tree. Darling, 67, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the state, according to ISP.

The Bonner County Coroner’s Office determined that Darling died of an unspecified medical emergency rather than injuries sustained in the collision, state police said in a news release.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:44 a.m.

State police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
