Clancy is our 13-pound Yorkshire terror (no misprint here). He is a frequent guest of the Pend Oreille Pet Lodge.

I was scheduled for minor surgery in Coeur d’Alene early in the afternoon and we dropped off Clancy before leaving. While in the waiting room, my wife said she had given the dog his dose of what turned out to be my diabetic medication. Immediately, we called the lodge and spoke with Melissa, who told us she would check on Clancy and call us back. After 15 minutes, my phone rang and Melissa said he was a little anxious, but that other attendants noted that was just his way of rooming in. Agitation is one of the early signs of hypoglycemia in humans and apparently dogs, too.

Melissa immediately took Clancy to the attached veterinary hospital, where vets conducted serial blood checks and gave appropriate sugar boosts until he stabilized.

Thank you to Melissa and all the staff at Pend Oreille Veterinarian Service & Lodge.
