David Alan Darling, 67

David Alan Darling, 67, loving husband, father, papa and brother, long-time Sandpoint High School teacher, and a truly honorable man, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, in Sandpoint, Idaho. A celebration of life will be held at the Sandpoint Elks on Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 12-4 p.m.

David was born on December 26, 1951, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Charlotte (Moon) and Robert Darling. He grew up and attended school in Sandpoint, graduating from Sand-point High School in 1970. He then served his country in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and served upon the USS Midway and the USS Marvin Shields. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, David attended the University of Idaho where he received his degree in education.

David Married Ellen Louise Munson on August 7, 1971, in Sandpoint. David taught at Sandpoint High School for 29 years, retiring in 2012. He also taught many night classes for North Idaho College during his career.

Mr. Darling served on the Dover City Council, PC Users Group, and was active in the VVA. He enjoyed farming, working on his tractor, small engines, mechanics, electronics, woodworking and always loved being part of The Injectors Auto Club and Industrial Education Club.

His greatest joy came from teaching and helping others in any way he could.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Darling of Sandpoint; two sons, David (Andrea) Darling of Ponderay, and James (Kaelee) Darling of Kennewick, Washington; one daughter Rachel (Michael) Jones of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren, Madalyn, Caelan, Ethan, Ashlyn, and Jackson; three brothers, Larry Darling of Sandpoint, Douglas (Robin) Darling of Coeur d’Alene, and John Darling of Sandpoint; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of any gifts, the family is requesting that donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or the local Vietnam Veterans Association Student Scholarship Fund in David’s name.
