Fun for some

The latest snowfall had most residents shoveling and working hard to clear paths, but for others it has opened up a whole lot of fun at the Priest River City Park. A day doesn’t go by that someone isn’t heading up the park for a few seconds of fun coming down. People can be seen at dusk still taking advantage of the snow.

Hunters walk out

Three hunters from Post Falls were found safe Thursday after spending a bone-bruising night in a cave when they became lost while tracking a cougar in the Cavanaugh Bay area north of Priest Lake. Members of the Priest Lake snowmobile club came upon the hunters’ snowmobiles about 28 miles north of Cavanaugh Bay. The hunters had left their lunches, snowshoes and mittens with the snowmobiles. Deputy Sheriff Rod Mayer led a group of snowmobilers in tracking the hunters before wind blew away any further signs. A search and rescue team was organized, but the hunters retraced their footsteps to their snowmobiles and found the rescue party just as the search was about to begin.

‘Cats’ made it more fun

Still another last gasp report on the hunting season. Jim Ward and Richard Slinger each knocked off an elk near Calder on the final day of the season. They left their snowmobiles at one point and began tracking in the snow. After walking five or six miles, they caught up with their quarry and brought them down. They then returned to their ‘cats’ and brought the meat out on the machines. They said that was more fun than shooting the game.

From the publisher

We came to Priest River a year ago. We have been pleasing and displeasing people ever since. We have been cussed and discussed, made some friends, made some enemies; lost no money, made none; been knocked about, talked about; praised and held up to scorn. The only reason we feel like staying on is we are curious as to what in heck will happen next.
