SANDPOINT — A Kootenai man was ordered to serve 30 days in jail for stealing equipment from a former employer and attempting to sell it on social media.

Casey Everett Clayburn will also have to serve two years of probation, according to the sentence imposed by 1st District Judge Barbara Buchanan. He was further ordered to pay $2,850 in restitution to his victims, court records show.

Clayburn, 35, was charged with grand theft and burglary for stealing a generator and other equipment from Northern States Pest Control in 2018. He was further accused of stealing chainsaws and guns from a Sunnyside landowner while working for a property management company.

In exchange for a plea to the felony theft charge, the burglary charge was dismissed, according to a plea agreement in the case.

Suspicion fell onto Clayburn after swag taken in the heists were put up for sale on Craigslist and Facebook, a probable cause affidavit alleges.
