Irene Dorothy Simonsen, 92

Irene Dorothy Simonsen, 92, passed away peacefully in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Monday, December 3, 2018.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the First Lutheran Church, 526 S. Olive Avenue, in Sandpoint at 11 a.m., with Pastor Lori Morton officiating. Irene’s cremated remains will be interred along-side her husband in the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.

Irene was born on February 23, 1926, in Upland, California, to Frank and Lela Pearl Allen. Irene and her older sister, Nellie Lou, grew up and attended school in Upland. After graduation, Irene married Edwin Simonsen and they had two children, Edwin Jr. and Sherilyn. After retirement, Irene and Edwin moved to Joshua Tree, California, and later moved to the Yucca Valley, California. The family would often spend the summers at their lake home in Cocolalla, Idaho. Irene moved to Luther Park at Sandpoint after her son Edwin passed away in 2014.

Irene worked part time as a secretary for the First Lutheran Church of Ontario. While in Joshua Tree, Irene served as the financial secretary at Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed painting, working in her rose garden and quilting for the Lutheran World Relief Organization.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Sherilyn Myers of Sagle, Idaho; five grandchildren, Dianna Radermacher, Stacy Hatcher, Ren Myers, David Kruger, and Kevin Simonsen; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Radermacher, Ansen Hatcher, and Emma Hatcher; and two great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte Hatcher and Anson Hatcher. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin Simonsen; son Edwin Eugene Simonsen; and sister Nelly Lou Allen.
