SANDPOINT — The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce welcomed Huckleberry Lanes with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 9. Under new ownership, the well-known bowling alley is undergoing some exciting changes in the new year.

New owners, John and Courtney Brekke were born and raised in Colorado. With Courtney’s father being born and raised in St. Maries, and eventually retiring there, the Brekkes have spent many summers here in Idaho and have always loved it. With the substantial growth that Colorado has seen in the last decade, the couple decided to move their young family to North Idaho.

John spent his entire working career in the auto industry, working for Toyota and then purchasing an auto repair shop with his father. While John worked remotely and Courtney worked in Coeur d’Alene, they happened upon the for-sale ad for the bowling alley. Months later the purchase was complete and the Brekkes gained ownership of Huckleberry Lanes on July 11, 2018.

Since owning the alley, they have already resurfaced the lanes as well as the approaches, installed an updated scoring system, gained parts and started rebuilding two pinsetters. In addition, they have updated the bathrooms, brought in a new pool and foosball tables, an arcade basketball game. For those looking for refreshments, the Brekkes brought in an extensive beer selection as well as some newer food options to complement old favorites.

Updates for the future include repairing the parking lot, planned for the spring time; repainting, changes to the party room, and new arcade games.

“Please join the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce in welcoming Huckleberry Lanes,” Greater Sandpoint Chamber President and CEO Kate McAlister said. “We wish new owners John and Courtney success in our community.”

You can join the fun Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Friday-Saturday, 10 a,m,-11 p.m. Huckleberry Lanes is located at 120 S. Division Ave., Sandpoint.
