| January 23, 2019 12:00 AM

Eagles Aerie 589 held one of its annual fundraisers on Sunday, January 6. The third annual Chili Cookoff brought nine contestants and 50 members and guests to help with judging for the “Burnt Spoon Award.”

Proceeds from the event will be used this year to purchase hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other supplies. These and other items will be provided in a backpack and given to Bonner County school children.

As for the cookoff, the “Burnt Spoon Award” went to Brenda Albert. Second place, awarded by the official judges, went to Jeff Heath. Heath received the best of, by popular vote. Ed Taylor Jr. wrapped out the top three with a unique chicken-based chili.

The Eagles Aerie is a local non-profit with International ties supporting many charities. In Sandpoint it is located at 1511 Johnny Long Road, next door to Miller’s Country Store. To find out more about how you can participate call 263-3514.
