SANDPOINT — There are many citizens of our great community who fly under the radar as far as doing great things without recognition.

We get so accustomed to seeing these individuals everywhere, we forget they are volunteers. The fearless leader at the chamber is one of those people. She is everywhere, doing everything out of the goodness of her heart. That is why on Jan. 10 in a surprise presentation at the general membership luncheon, the chamber honored Kate McAlister as the January volunteer of the month.

Her long-time friend, Marcia Pilgeram presented her with the award, listing off the countless organizations she has volunteered for, the many boards she sits on, and everything in between. McAlister currently serves as the president of The Angels of Over Sandpoint, sits on the board of the Forrest M. Bird Charter School, Kaniksu Health, and the Bonner County Regional Team. She spends countless hours planning and executing non-profit events for the chamber of Commerce and the Angels.

You will find her many evenings and weekends, working as the emcee, singing the national anthem, or volunteering at area events, hosting journalists who come to town to write about Sandpoint, coordinating weddings of friends and family, helping young professionals with their business and marketing plans, resume building, and general advice. “No one loves Sandpoint and her people more than Kate! She demonstrates it constantly; giving her time so generously to community, organizations and individuals alike!” said Pilgeram.

“I was both surprised and humbled by the honor”, said McAlister at the luncheon. “I love this town and the people in it.”
