The Sandpoint West Sharks club swim team sent seven swimmers to Washington Open on Jan. 17-20. At the event, which boasted 1,100 athletes from multiple states, all seven swimmers set new personal bests in at least one event.

Jacob Ballard sliced 8.19 seconds off his personal best en route to a 30th place finish in the 200 IM, then followed up that performance by swimming a 59.51 in the 100 breaststroke to finish in 18th. Hayden Norling had similar success in the 200 IM by setting a new personal best at 2:15.8.

On the girls’ side, Katelyn Bokowy PR’ed by four seconds in the 100 fly with her time of 1:03.27.

Sprinters had a strong showing as well. Mikayla Schoening’s 25:36 finish in the 50 freestyle led the team, while Julia Cummings (25.93) and Autumn Morgan (27.21) also set new personal bests.
