Merle Edward Snider, 83

Merle Edward Snider, 83, a resident of Priest River/Oldtown, Idaho, since 1981, died peacefully at home on June 25, 2019. Born to William E. Snider and Gladys (Pittenger) Snider on Nov. 1, 1935, in Merced, Calif., he married Shirley Ann Willhite of Modesto, Calif., in 1959. She preceded him in death March 18, 2014.

Merle graduated Oakdale High School in California in 1954, and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. After the Navy, he was employed by Willinger’s Automotive for 10 years and then he became self-employed, opening his own business Snider’s Speedometer Service, a mobile speedometer repair business servicing the Modesto, California surrounding areas.

He retired in 1981 moved to Priest River, Idaho, and opened Video Showtime with his wife Shirley. He retired again in 1988 and built his dream log home and raised Hereford cattle.

He is survived by his sister, Joan Buchanan of Modesto; four children, Teresa Asbill-Podraza of Oak Harbor, Washington, Brian and Linda Snider of Oldtown, Idaho, Lisa Braulik of California, and William Snider of California; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.
