Schweitzer hosts Race the Wolf SkyRunner USA trail runs

| July 3, 2019 1:00 AM

Schweitzer Mountain Resort is gearing up to become part of the nation’s most challenging trail running series, SkyRunner USA Series, with “Race the Wolf” on July 6 and 7, 2019.

This trail running race series consists of 10 world class events designed to inspire athletes looking to tackle ultra-running challenges.

The race at Schweitzer consists of three different courses: a 52-kilometer, 25-kilometer and an eight-kilometer route. The 25 and 52-kilometer routes boast steep climbs along single track stretches with and mountain views from every step.

Race Director Ken Eldore has provided quality race experiences through Priest Lake Multisport.

“Getting to experience the success of others meeting their next race day challenge drives me to keep offering our best,” Eldore said. “Race the Wolf is exactly that. The combination of Schweitzer Mountain Resort, the rugged terrain of the Selkirk Mountains and the SkyRunner USA Series offers a truly world class trail race.”

Mike Ehredt, nationally recognized ultra-runner and coach, has also been instrumental in bringing this race to North Idaho.

“As part of the SkyRunner USA Series, we have a higher level of adventure and difficulty in our 25K and 52K that requires racers to give their utmost and best effort, Ehredt said. “For example, the 52-kilometer course will have approximately 9200 feet of vertical gain built into the course.

“This is such a fabulous opportunity for us to showcase our terrain,” Dig Chrismer, Schweitzer’s marketing manager, said. “The longer races are really unique and challenging but runners who are more interested in a shorter or less demanding adventure will still get an incredible experience with the 8K route. Our local athletes are ready for this kind of endeavor and Schweitzer is a perfect fit for this type of race.”

Race registration is available until July 4, 2019 through SkyRunner’s “Race the Wolf” website, https://racethewolf.com/home. On-site lodging options are also available at Schweitzer for the weekend in both the Selkirk and White Pine Lodges.
