Katie Egland Cox joins KLT

| July 4, 2019 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — If you spend time on local trails in the early morning hours, enjoy cross-country skiing, or are involved in volunteering and philanthropy in the Sandpoint area, you may already be acquainted with the new executive director of Kaniksu Land Trust. A native Idahoan and Sandpoint resident, Katie Cox has a deep passion for bringing people together, and has worked for years in support of education, recreation, and open space conservation. The board and staff of Kaniksu Land Trust are delighted to welcome Katie to the KLT team as the organization’s new executive director.

Katie’s love for the natural world developed in her youth, which was spent exploring the wilds of Idaho. Born and raised in Moscow and Elk City, she firmly believes that spending time in the outdoors is vital. She and her husband, Brian, work hard to cultivate these same values in their three young daughters.

Katie’s professional focus has been on education and architecture, with a particular interest in building community. A graduate of both the University of Idaho and the University of Washington, she has organized and supported large capital projects and programs in support of education for the University of Idaho. In recent years, she has owned and operated her own architecture practice while serving in numerous volunteer roles in the Sandpoint community, including as co-chair of KLT’s successful capital campaign to purchase Pine Street Woods. After a rigorous five-month search process that attracted more than two dozen applicants from across the country, Katie emerged as the clear choice to lead KLT into the future.

The threads of Cox’s life have woven together her deepest passions: the landscapes of the Inland Northwest, the value of teaching and learning, the importance of community, and the benefits of spending time in the outdoors. As such, she is the ideal advocate for Kaniksu Land Trust, and will be focused on sustainability and growth in the years ahead.

Please reach out to Katie by phone (208-263-9471) or email (katie@kaniksu.org) if you’d like to schedule a visit with her. Or, as an exciting alternative, join a 5-day Middle Fork River Tours rafting adventure on the Salmon River later this summer to get even more acquainted with Katie while supporting KLT’s conservation and community programs. Space is limited. Call KLT for details.

Kaniksu Land Trust is a not-for-profit organization that promotes healthy communities and healthy lands in north Idaho and northwest Montana.
