| July 9, 2019 1:00 AM

Mountainside Volleyball Club is pleased to announce their Summer Volleyball Camps for 2019. The camps will run three consecutive Mondays at Farmin Stidwell elementary school and will be divided into two sessions.

The dates for camps are July 15, July 22 and July 29. Enrollment will be limited.

The camps will be run by longtime local club volleyball coach Jack Dyck. Assisting Jack will be former Eastern Washington University assistant coach and former Sandpoint High School alumni Matt Dyck.

Current Sandpoint High School JV coach Piper Wahlin and SHS alumna Koko James will also be assisting the camp.

Koko and Piper were high school teammates and were two-time Idaho State Champions at Sandpoint High School.

They continued their volleyball careers as rivals in the Big Sky conference. Piper played as an outside hitter at Weber State while Koko was the starting setter for the University of Montana.

The first session will be for players who will be entering grades 5-7 this fall. Camp will run from 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

The focus of camp will be on not only the fundamentals of building a correct arm swing, but also the fundamentals of proper passing platforms.

The players will also be introduced to beginning team strategies and movement skills. Camp is limited to the first 20 campers who enroll. The cost for this camp is $50 per person.

The second session will be for those players who will be entering eighth grade and above. Camp will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The focus in this camp will be on the execution of first touches (serving, passing and blocking) and attacking.

Setters will be identified and worked with independently as well as being integrated into all drills.

The more highly skilled players will be participating in more advanced drills with higher expectations. Team strategies including both team offense and team defense will be practiced with players of similar abilities.

Camp is limited to the first 30 campers that enroll. The cost for this camp is $75.

Please note that only players who are motivated to learn should consider enrolling in camp. Players are expected to exhibit great effort, concentration and energy.

To register for either camp, go to the Mountainside Volleyball Club and find the registration tab on the home page.
