What is it about “global” that deniers of global warming do not understand? One of their misleading claims is that “it was warmer 2,000 and 1,000 years ago than it is now.” While certain areas of the Northern Hemisphere appear to have been relatively warm then, surface temperatures are now warmer on a worldwide basis than they were during that period. (See: “Does the medieval warming period discredit climate change?”) Just because some parts of the Earth were unusually warm then does not negate the fact that it is demonstrably warmer on a global scale now.

The naysayers are eager to embrace any shred of evidence that can be misconstrued to support their belief warming is nonexistent. For example, some are now peddling the myth that glaciers are increasing in size in Glacier Park. If one traces the source of that claim, it appears to have originated from a Mr. Roger Roots. He is a lawyer/sociologist with no formal training in the climate sciences who bases his amateur opinion on some random pictures he has taken. He is an ex-con, Nazi sympathizer, and creator of a fake university — not exactly the type of person one should count on to produce reliable information about the status of glaciers. (See: “Spoof or genuinely nuts? Another conspiracy theory at WUWT about shrinking glaciers”) Of the original approximately150 glaciers present in Glacier Park, only 25 remain and the number continues to dwindle. (See: “USGS Retreat of Glaciers in Glacier National Park”)
