Cornerstone adds AlterG treadmill system
SANDPOINT — Cornerstone Physical Therapy & Aquatics in Sandpoint had added an AlterG anti-gravity treadmill system to give clients enhanced mobility and help them get up to speed faster.
The system, which also includes the company’s newest technology, Stride Smart, uses NASA’s differential air pressure technology to allow clients to feel what it’s like to walk or run on the moon.
Once on the treadmill, clients are zipped into the machine from the waist down and, within minutes, the device fills with air to unload your bodyweight. The therapists at Cornerstone are able to remove up to 80 percent of clients’ bodyweight in 1% increments allowing them to walk and run pain free. The system allows those with painful walking or running to return to exercise and helps high level athletes prevent or recover from injury and get back to what they love most. The AlterG is a frequently prescribed intervention for those after orthopedic surgeries such as total knee and total hip replacements and patients with neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons disease and those recovering from stroke.
The AlterG at Cornerstone Physical Therapy & Aquatics comes equipped with the newest technology, Stride Smart, which offers gait analytics with internal sensors that detect gait mechanics and gives clients real time information about the quality of their walking and running, Cornerstone officials said in a press release. Because of the technology, the system is often able to detect gait abnormalities unseen by even the trained eye. The combination of precise body weight unloading with gait analytics will allow their clients to train and rehab like the professionals do.
Amanda Thome, physical therapist and owner of Cornerstone, said she is excited to use the technology to further progress her clients — many of whom currently use their warm water therapy pool to reach their goals and recover from injury.
