July 14, 1969 – CHICKSES OBSERVE 40TH

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph R. Chicks were honored on their 40th wedding anniversary at an open house at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Chicks. They were wed July 2, 1929 at her grandparents’ home in Tualatin, Ore.

Their first home was in Colburn where he had come the year before to work for the H.E. Brown Lumber Co. In 1948, they and their two sons moved to Sandpoint where they still reside. They have been active in community affairs.

For the open house, Mrs. Chicks carried a handkerchief that her mother carried at her June, 1904 wedding, also at Tualatin.

DOUBLE-RING SERVICE FOR HADLEYS

Rev. Clarence Twigg performed a double-ring wedding service for Denice Fay Harford, Moscow, and Donald C. Hadley of Sandpoint on June 28 in the First Presbyterian Church. The bride is the daughter of J. Kenneth Harford and Mrs. Fay Welter of Spokane. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Hadley of Sandpoint are the parents of the groom.

Mr. and Mrs. Hadley are residing in Moscow.

MAKIS NAMED TO DEAN’S HONOR ROLL

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Maki of Sandpoint were named to the spring semester dean’s list at the U of I. Both are students in the school of agriculture. She is the former Frances Paulet of Sandpoint.

July 14, 1919 – BACK AT OLD STAND

Captain Phil Matthiensen, who laid away the sword a few weeks ago, has taken up the razor and the shears at the old stand in the Sawyer & Matthiensen barber shop, 105 Main, from which he was absent over two years while serving with the A.E.F. in France. In his absence, the shop was taken care of by W.C. Sawyer, who kept the partnership alive against the soldier’s return.

CITY BREVITIES

The rottenest circus that ever put up canvass in Sandpoint eased in and out of town last week when an exhibition called Sangers’ put up its tent back of the Ryan Produce warehouse and gave two shows. There were seven performers and a monkey. The city should have prevented a second performance after the first one proved they were taking money under false pretenses.

BOY SCOUTS TO TWIN LAKES

Ten Sandpoint boy scouts, ages 12 to 15, left town Monday for summer camp at Point Dee-Light on Twin Lakes. They were taken over in the cars of Robert Coons and A.T. Park, John Selle’s truck carrying their camp equipment. When they return July 21, the same machines will provide transportation. Scouts who went are: Edward Thomason, Roscoe Bower, Clifford Miller, Herbert Shook, Dell Park, Carl Neuman, Gaylord Hewett, Lyle Stuart, Francis McCann and Kenneth Shook.
