Miles named SHS principal

SANDPOINT — David Miles has been hired as the new Sandpoint High School principal.

The hiring comes after a very thorough interview process involving five quality candidates, Lake Pend Oreille School District Superintendent Tom Albertson said in an email to the Daily Bee.

Miles has served as principal at Boundary County Middle School for the last six years and previously taught social studies at Sandpoint High School.

The posting for the position, which came open after Albertson was hired to lead the school district, attracted 15 applicants, Albertson said. In the meantime, the classified and certified staff at SHS provided input on the kinds of characteristics they would like to see in a principal.

With 25 responses, Albertson told the Lake Pend Oreille School Board last week that he planned to interview five or six of the applicants, rather than two or three as would be typical, in order to honor the staff’s input.

That process culminated in Monday’s announcement of Miles being named to the SHS post.
